MIAMI, Florida – Mexico’s return to action ahead of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup saw El Tricolor earn a 3-0 win over fellow Gold Cup side Panama in an international friendly on Wednesday night.
Diego Lainez continued his excellent international form with a left-footed finish in the 21st minute to give Mexico a 1-0 lead.
Cesar Montes would double the Mexico advantage to 2-0 in the 57th minute with a header off a corner kick. The night was then completed by a right-footed finish from FW Henry Martin in the 91st minute to seal the Mexican victory.
In other pre-Gold Cup action, Guyana edged Bermuda 1-0 on Tuesday in a final 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims tune-up for both sides.
While Bermuda largely controlled the match, they were never able to breach what was a very compact and well-organized Guyana defense.
The Golden Jaguars, who last Saturday defeated Miami Dade FC 3-1 in another friendly match, got the winning goal in the second half off a strike from Ryan Kedhoo, a member of Guyana’s training squad, in the 85th minute.
Next up for Bermuda will be their 2021 Gold Cup Prelims opener versus Barbados on Friday, while Guyana will take aim at Guatemala on Saturday in their Prelims debut.
