HOUSTON, Texas – There is a family feeling when it comes to the Haitian National team at present, as it prepares for its 2019 Gold Cup quarterfinal versus Canada.
“Whenever we get together or hang out, it’s like being with family. It’s a strong group and it makes us go hard in training,” said Haiti MF Steeven Saba in Haiti’s pre-match press conference on Friday. “We are solely focused on Canada and all that matters to us is tomorrow’s game.”
With a win on Saturday night, Haiti would reach the Gold Cup semifinals for the first time.
Haiti Head Coach Marc Collat has no doubt that he will get a full effort from his players when they take the field.
“Our objective is to reach the semifinals. We know it is a big step but we will do everything we can to get there. My only concern is this match versus Canada. We are going to try to play well and hope for a good outcome and then think about the next step,” said Collat.
With 12 goals in three group stage matches, Canada has certainly showed its offensive firepower.
Saturday’s opponent has certainly left an impression on Collat, who expects a very difficult test during the 90 minutes.
“Canada is very well balanced. The team has no faults, it has a great defense, attackers who score. You have to be at the top of your game when you play them, and just like in our previous game against Costa Rica, we have to be at our best,” concluded Collat.
