NWSL final set, while Liguilla MX field is complete

The table is set and the Championship Final of the NWSL is here following the results of the semifinals over the weekend..

MIAMI – The postseason has given fans of women’s football everything they could have asked for and more. Now, they are ready to witness the most challenging matches of the whole tournament.

The table is set and the Championship Final of the NWSL is here following the results of the semifinals over the weekend.

The first semifinal saw the Portland Thorns qualify for the Final when they downed the San Diego Wave 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of 22,035 spectators in Portland. The visitors opened up the scoring via Taylor Kornieck, but with a goal from outside the area from Raquel Rodriguez and a last-minute volley from Crystal Dunn, who scored her first goal after becoming a mother, the Thorns returned to the Championship game after a four-year absence.

The second match of the day was just as exciting, with the  defeating Shield Champions OL Reign, 2-0 on Monday evening, earning the other ticket to the Final. With goals from Kristen Hamilton and Alexis Loera, the Current clinched their first Final ever and will get a chance to fight for the NWSL Championship.

The Liguilla for the Liga MX Femenil is finally here, with the eight teams ready to battle for this year’s title.

The last ticket for the Liguilla was up for grabs going into the weekend and it was claimed by Toluca on Monday evening, as Las Diablas topped Club Leon 2-1. Brenda Woch gave Toluca a 1-0 lead, only to see Yashira Barrientos find the 1-1 equalizer. However, a late first half score from Mariel Roman permitted las Diablas to secure the eighth spot. 

Mazatlan defeated Pachuca, who had qualified already for the Liguilla, 3-1 on Monday evening. Wanting to end their regular season on a high, las Canoneras took to the field looking for victory, managing it with the help of Magaly Cortes (2) and Jazmin Piza. Lizbeth Angeles pulled one back for las Tuzas, scoring their only goal of the night.

Tigres finished their regular season with a win of 5-2 over Club Tijuana on Monday evening. Veronica Perez scored first for the visitors; however, Adyson Willet scored an own goal, evening things out. Bianca Sierra put up the second one for the hosts, followed by Tijuana’s Daniela Espinosa making it 2-2. Yet another own goal from Willet and a brace from Mia Fishel earned Tigres the win and for Fishel, the title of top scorer of the season.

The Liga de Clausura of Costa Rica closed week 9 with some incredible results.

The league celebrated the Clasico Nacional between Saprissa FF and LD Alajuelense on Sunday evening, and it was hosts Saprissa who took the victory 4-2- with goals from Yessenia Flores, Cristel Sandi, Yomira Pinzon and Kenlly Villalobos. Alajuelense got their goals from Mia Corbin and Natalia Mills. 

In a 1-0 final, Suva Sports downed Dimas Escazu on Sunday afternoon. Yeisy Fuentes was the author of the single goal of the night, helping her team keep fighting to stay in First Division.

Sporting FC showed why they’re still holding onto first place in the table, defeating Perez Zeledon 7-0 on Sunday evening. Cristin Granados (2), Katherine Arroyo (2), Carol Sanchez, Diana Saenz and Julieth Navarro all scored in the commanding win.
