MIAMI – After a well-deserved break after conquering the 2022 Concacaf W Championship in Monterrey with the United States Women’s National Team, Lindsey Horan is off to a fresh start with her club, reigning French and European Champions, Olympique Lyonnais.
The preseason for the French team began with a couple of friendlies at the beginning of the summer, having available only players that didn’t get a call-up from their national teams and academy players. Horan rejoined the OL at the beginning of this month, after crowning herself as champion of Concacaf with the USWNT.
By earning the title earlier this summer in Monterrey, the USWNT also qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be played in Australia/New Zealand. They will also be attending the 2024 Olympic Games that will take place in Paris. Finally, they will also play the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup.
Preparing for next season is key to the North American and her teammates, as they face the upcoming competitions as champions, and will try to retain their titles by the end the season. Horan was key for OL in crucial matches, such as the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, French League and French Cup, being part of the starting XI in almost every game.
This will be the second season for Horan with the French giants. She arrived to Lyon at the beginning of 2022 via a loan from the Portland Thorns FC, having signed with the west coast team in 2016.
The next challenge for Horan and OL will be starting next week, as the Women’s International Champions Cup takes place in Portland, Oregon. Two Concacaf teams will be also taking the pitch: Rayadas of Monterrey from Liga MX Femenil and Hornan’s former club, the Portland Thorns from the NWSL. Chelsea FC is the fourth and final guest at this year’s tournament.
