MIAMI — Footballers from all over the world know that they will need to leave home to keep growing and reach their goals. Guatemalan international forward Andrea Alvarez has been challenging herself since a very young age, most recently signing with the Spanish team SD Eibar.

The 19-year-old player has been one to watch since her early years in football. At only 14 years old, she made her debut in the Guatemala women’s league, standing out with her abilities to find goals and astute reading of the game.

The sky was the limit for Alvarez, scoring more than 200 goals in the Liga Nacional, earning the title of top scorer in 2021. With this demonstration of her talents, second-tier Spanish side Zaragoza CFF made her part of their squad, as she packed her bags to leave to play in Spain.

Alvarez quickly showed why she was brought into the team, scoring goals in all competitions, including La Copa de la Reina and the Primera Federacion, the competition for the second division in Spain.

With more than seven goals among all domestic competitions, SD Eibar made a move for her earlier this year, adding her to their project to keep climbing positions in the table.

Currently, the team sit in second place after 11 weeks played with 29 points, Alvarez being one of the top scorers in the league with five goals to her name. With these efforts and style of play, SD Eibar and Alavrez are on their way to reach first place and earn promotion to the Liga F, the first division in Spain.

Alvarez is also a known face of the Guatemalan Women’s National Team, making her senior debut in 2021, after being part of the younger National Teams throughout her entire football life.

As the Youth National Team level, she scored a brace in Guatemala’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Jamaica in the group stage of the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship.

She was part of the 3-1 win over Panama on home soil, making her first game with the Senior team one to always remember. Alvarez then followed that up with a strong performance in 2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualifying, scoring three goals in four games, including a brace in a 9-0 win over the US Virgin Islands.

Needless to say, Alvarez is a rising star for both Eibar and Guatemala.
