Mexico defeated by Brazil in final World Cup match

MIAMI, Florida – Mexico came up just short in their final match of Group D of the 2024 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, losing 4-3 in the final moments to Brazil on Tuesday night at the Dubai Design District Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Cristofher Castillo tallied his second goal of the tournament to hand Mexico a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Brazil would answer with two goals for a 2-1 Brazil lead at Interval 1.

A Brazil red card in the second period paved the way for a Mexico equalizer, as Salomon Wbias scored to make it 2-2 at the end of the second period.

Brazil lurched back in front in the early stages of the third period, but Mexico never wavered and a brilliant goal from Ramon Maldonado with a minute left made for a 3-3 scoreline at the end of regular time.

In extra time, neither side appeared to budge, and it looked as if penalties would decide the winner, only for Brazil to find a game-winning goal with just one second left on the clock to take the final, 4-3.
