SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League (NASL) announced Tuesday that they will host Saprissa in a friendly on April 5 at Toyota Field.

The match will serve as part of the Scorpions’ preparations for their 2014 season opener five days later.

“We strive to bring the very best games we can to Toyota Field and this match against a well-respected club like Saprissa will be an excellent test for our team prior to the start of our NASL season on April 12th against Minnesota,” said Howard Cornfield, San Antonio’s president.

Saprissa – winner of two CONCACAF club crowns – has captured 29 league titles, equaling it with Alajuelense for the most in Costa Rican football history.

The Monstruo Morado currently sits second in the Verano with 29 points, just one behind leader Herediano.  It is unbeaten in 13 straight games after suffering a matchday one setback.
