MIAMI, Florida – With the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship set to take place May 3-9, 2021 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, many of the protagonists from past editions will be looking to lift this year’s trophy.

In the history of the competition across six editions, only three teams have won the title.

Costa Rica are the most decorated nation in the history of the CFC, with three titles. The Ticos won the second tournament in 2000 when they defeated Cuba in the Final, 2-0. The Central Americans have also won the last two editions in 2012 and 2016 when they defeated Guatemala, 3-2, and Panama, 4-0, respectively, in the Final.

Not far behind on the all-time CFC titles list is the United States, who won the inaugural tournament in 1996 by topping Cuba in the Final, 7-3. Eight years later in the 2004 CFC the U.S. achieved the same feat with a 2-0 victory over the Cubans in the Final.

The U.S. also have two third-place finishes to their name, coming in 2000 and 2008.

Rounding out the list of past champions is Guatemala, who took home top honors in the 2008 CFC after a memorable Final against Cuba. The two sides played to a 3-3 draw, resulting in a penalty shootout which was won by the Chapines, 5-3.

Suffice to say, the Cubans have come achingly close to lifting the title, finishing as runners-up in the first four editions of the tournament in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Both Guatemala and Panama also have runner-up finish in 2012 and 2016, respectively.

In the 2021 edition, 16 teams will play in a round-robin group stage, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The four winners of the quarterfinal matches will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021.
