SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Federación Dominicana de Fútbol (FEDOFUTBOL) is celebrating 100 years of football in the Dominican Republic with a special celebration on Saturday.

CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani will be in attendance at the Dominican Fiesta hotel along with officials from the Asociación de Fútbol de Cuba, Fédération Haïtienne de Football and Federación Puertorriqueña de Fútbol.  The third season of the Liga Dominicana de Fútbol -- the country’s first professional league – will also be commemorated.

It is an exciting time for FEDOFUTBOL President Osiris Guzman.

"We started the celebration with New York Cosmos visit,” said Guzman.  “We wanted a touch of nostalgia, while demonstrating the game’s growth. The NY Cosmos came in 1976, but did not play against any local team.  On this occasion, they had the opportunity to play three games in two different cities.  This demonstrates the importance and growth of football within our country.

"The confirmed visits of presidents’ and our friends’ company fill us with joy.  Counting on the presence of Montagliani, CONCACAF's top official, in addition to Luis Hernandez (Cuba), Eric Labrador (Puerto Rico), and Yves Jean Bart (Haiti), offers a perspective of the relevance of this moment.  Montagliani visited the country during his electoral campaign.  We support the current administration and the president’s plans for football development throughout the Caribbean.”
