MONTREAL, Canada – CF Montreal will be looking to turn the tables on Santos Laguna when they meet in the second leg of the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday night at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

It was a tight, intense encounter between the two sides in the first leg in Mexico, with Santos pocketing a 1-0 victory on a late goal from Alberto Ocejo.

Montreal would like nothing better than to replicate the same scoreline that they enjoyed the last time they faced Santos in an SCCL match in Montreal, a 2-0 win in the quarterfinal first leg of the 2008-09 tournament.

The home side have the goalscorers to do it, including Honduran dangerman Romell Quioto, who has five career SCCL goals in 19 matches.

There is also help in midfield with Victor Wanyama, who had three ball recoveries, while GK Sebastian Breza stood out with eight saves and three clearances in last week’s first leg.

Santos will counter with weapons of their own, namely MF Alan Cervantes, who peppered the Montreal goal with four shots while also leading the team in completed passes with 44.

There is also MF Fernando Gorriaran, who supplied the assist on the Ocejo goal to go along with 51 completed passes and two ball recoveries.

It should all make for a compelling 90 minutes of football between two sides keen for a spot in the final eight.
