KINGSTON, Jamaica -- In 2012, Jorginho James made his debut for Jamaica at 17-years-old, scoring in a 1-0 win over Cuba.
Five years later, Kaheem Parris – just 16-years-old -- is looking to replicate that achievement, when the Reggae Boyz visit Trinidad & Tobago on August 24.
“I am so grateful for this wonderful opportunity to represent my country,” Parris told CONCACAF.com. “To be part of the squad is great and I am looking forward to his encounter coming up. I have been working hard and I believe hard work pays off at the end of the day. If and when I get an opportunity, I vow to do my best.”
Parris, who is a big fan of Argentina star Angel Di Maria, played for Jamaica in the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship. He had two goals in that competition after netting five times in Caribbean qualifying.
“Playing in the CONCACAF tournament at U-17 level earlier in the year I would say was a good experience for me,” remarked Parris. “Despite not qualifying for the U-17 FIFA World Cup, which was our goal, it helped me to develop mental strength and to grow as a player, to get over disappointments quickly, to move on to success quicker and make me want to work harder. So with this national senior team call up, I plan to work hard to be a regular in the senior team.”
If the Cavalier SC standout earns a cap, he would become the youngest-ever player to compete for Jamaica internationally.
