Director of Marketing and Communications Jurgen Mainka has been promoted to the role

Miami (Friday, December 11, 2015) - The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) today announced that Jurgen Mainka, CONCACAF’s Director of Marketing and Communications, has been promoted to Deputy General Secretary. Mr. Mainka will continue to oversee the Confederation’s marketing and communications functions, in addition to assuming broader operational responsibilities to continue strengthening the administration of the organization.

In a statement, CONCACAF’s Executive Committee said: “With his extensive knowledge of the region, proven track record in elevating CONCACAF’s commercial properties, and passion for soccer, Jurgen is the right executive to serve as the Confederation’s Deputy General Secretary. Jurgen has already assumed a leadership role in reforming the Confederation’s business operations, and will continue this work by implementing effective processes that strengthen our relationships with commercial and broadcast partners.”

“It is both a privilege and great responsibility to work on behalf of the members of this Confederation to further professionalize its operations and ensure that we live up to our mission,” said Jurgen Mainka, CONCACAF Deputy General Secretary. “There is a long road ahead of us, but I am confident in our staff and look forward to continuing CONCACAF’s work to develop the game in our region so that we can better serve our teams, fans, partners, and all of those who contribute to making soccer the world's game."

In his role as Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Mainka will work with Acting General Secretary Ted Howard to oversee the Confederation’s day-to-day operations, while continuing to fulfill his marketing and communications responsibilities.

Mr. Mainka has served as the Confederation’s Director of Communications and Marketing since November 2012. During his time at CONCACAF, the Confederation has hosted its two most successful Gold Cup tournaments in the organization’s history and seen significant growth in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, its premier club competition. Simultaneously, Mr. Mainka has overseen the expansion of the Confederation’s efforts to engage fans, the development of international marketing campaigns, and the enhancement of communications with Member Associations, media, and other key stakeholders.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mainka has worked with major soccer clubs and leagues, as well as leading agencies, and commercial and broadcast partners to market, develop, and grow sports properties internationally.
