MIAMI, Florida – Every football fan will be on the edge of their seat on Tuesday, as the United States Women’s National Team will play Portugal to fight for the top stop in Group E of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
The USWNT got a 1-1 draw in their previous outing against the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 Final, leaving the top spot of the group up for grabs.
Captain and MF Lindsey Horan was the one that found the back to the net to even things out against the Europeans, showing why she is one of the difference-makers that the North Americans have on the pitch.
Another game-changer was MF Rose Lavelle, who came off the bench and transformed the style of play of the USWNT, helping them get back control of the match and create chances every time she touched the ball or started a play.
Portugal, a team that is playing in their first ever World Cup, have turned things around since their first match when they lost against the Netherlands. They won their first Women’s World Cup game ever against Vietnam and will surely try to keep the momentum going when they face the current World Champions.
FW Jessica Silva, their star striker, is ready to showcase herself to the world once more. But Silva is not the only one who will try to upset the champions, as FW Francisca Nazareth, the player who scored the winning goal in their last match, will also try to have another successful performance.
This is the first time these two teams will have faced each other in a Women’s World Cup, having only played friendlies in the past, with the USA having won all of them on a goal difference of 39 goals.
