KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica head coach Winfried Schafer will not be on the bench for tonight’s World Cup qualifier against visiting Haiti at the National Stadium, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announced in a statement this afternoon.
Assistant coach Miguel Coley has been put in charge of the team, which was eliminated from Russia 2018 contention following Friday’s 2-0 loss at Group B-rival Panama in a fourth-round encounter.
A formal complaint and expression of concern from the Press Association of Jamaica and the RJR Group was sent to the JFF regarding Schafer’s interaction with a TVJ videographer Saturday at Norman Manley International Airport after the squad returned from Panama City.
Schafer, who was hired in July 2013, guided Jamaica to the 2014 Caribbean Cup title and a runner-up finish in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Reggae Boyz will open defense of their Caribbean Cup crown on October 5 against Guyana.
