LIMA, Peru – Universitario confirmed Monday that it has acquired Panama international Alberto Quintero for the 2017 season, which will see the Peruvian side compete in the Copa Libertadores.
The 29-year-old midfielder spent 2016 with the San Jose Earthquakes on loan from Mexico’s BUAP Lobos, scoring three goals in 30 matches.
Quintero made his professional debut in 2006 with Panama’s Chorrillo FC, before moving in 2009 to Spain, where he played for Torrellano, Cartagena and Ontinyent.
In 2012, he signed for Independiente Medellin of Colombia and, a year later, went to Mexico to compete for BUAP Lobos, Merida and Zacatecas.
With Panama, Quintero has played in three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2011, 2013, 2015), three editions of the Copa Centroamericana (2013, 2014, 2017), the 2016 Copa America Centenario and the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
