PANAMA CITY, Panama – For the first time in more than 15 years, Panama international Felipe Baloy will play club football in the country of his birth. On Thursday, Panamanian side Tauro FC announced that it signed the 35-year-old defender to a deal.
Baloy spent 2016 with Colombia’s Rionegro Aguilas, appearing in 13 games.
Prior to heading to South America, the 6-foot-1 standout enjoyed an 11-year spell in Mexico, where he played for Monterrey (2009 Apertura champion), Club America, Santos (2012 Clausura champion), Morelia and Atlas. He competed in 19 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League games with Santos, scoring one goal and finishing as runner-up twice (2011/12, 2012/13).
After starting his career at home with Euro Kickers (1999) and Sporting ’89, which eventually became known as Sporting San Miguelito (2000), Baloy moved to Colombia’s Envigado (2001-02: 37 games/3 goals). He shifted to Independiente Medellin in 2003, before heading to Brazil to play for Gremio (2003-04) and Atletico Paranaense (2005).
With Panama, he has played in the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011), Copa Centroamericana (2007, 2011), the Copa America Centenario (2016) and three World Cup Qualifying cycles (2006, 2014, 2018).
