GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- An injury to his right knee forced Oswaldo Alanis to depart the field with five minutes left in Mexico’s 2-0 win on Tuesday in a World Cup qualifier at Honduras.
After further evaluation, it was determined that the Tricolor standout suffered a patella dislocation. Since there was no ligament or meniscus damage, however, the defender will avoid surgery and could be back playing after a six-week rehabilitation period.
“There are positive and negative feelings,” said Alanis. “I’m happy with the results and the situation that exists in the national team, the two wins in a row, adding up to six very important points.
“It’s more the point of visiting a difficult field (the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula), which we’ve had long been without a win. Secondly, it’s about the injury. You have to adhere to what you have to do in order to recover quickly and work 100 percent. Everything happens for a reason and it should bring out the positives. You never want these things to happen, but it's part of football.”
Alanis’ Guadalajara closes its 2015 Liga MX Apertura campaign at home on Sunday against Santos. Both sides have been eliminated from post-season contention, but the 26-year-old is already looking forward to returning to health and playing a role in the 2016 Clausura.
“I'm happy because thank God it was not serious and we must now work to build, rehabilitate and hopefully be ready as soon as possible with optimism and eagerness to be back soon,” Alanis finished. “The process requires that you give a lot of time with the work and exercises, having a lot of enthusiasm for everything as directed and with that being back up better than we were.”
