SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain – Real Sociedad announced Tuesday that Mexico international Diego Reyes will not return to the Spanish La Liga club after the expiration of his one-year loan from Portugal’s Porto.
Reyes appeared in 27 of Real Sociedad’s 38-league games, scoring two goals.
"My cycle at the Real Sociedad has come to an end,” Reyes wrote in a letter to the club and its fans. “Therefore, by this means, I want to thank everyone who made this year a great year, not only in football, but also personally.
"I’m infinitely grateful to the fans for their love and support, as well as the management and coaching staff, who gave me the confidence and much-needed minutes, and hope to find in my next club. I wish them the best of success. I will always carry them in my heart.”
Most recently, the 23-year-old played in three of Mexico’s four games at the Copa America Centenario.
He will report back to Porto, which he joined from Club America in 2013, but his status for the 2016/17 season remains unclear.
