EINDHOVEN, Netherlands – Dutch side PSV Eindhoven announced Sunday that it has acquired Mexico international Hector Moreno from Spain’s Espanyol.
The 27-year-old defender signed a four-year contract.
“This is a good move,” said Moreno. “At PSV, I can fight for the title and play in the UEFA Champions League. I felt I was ready for a new challenge and PSV have offered me that opportunity.”
Moreno began his career with Pumas in 2006 before making the jump to Europe to play with the Netherlands’ AZ Alkmaar (2008-11), where the won the 2009 Eredivisie title. The center back then joined Espanyol, playing in 118 matches and scoring seven goals for the Barcelona-based club.
“Both my football and my personality have grown considerably in Spain,” Moreno commented. “I have played against some of the best players in the world. That’s why I am a better player than in my first period in Holland.”
At PSV, Moreno will have the opportunity to play alongside countryman Andres Guardado.
Moreno missed this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup due to injury, but did compete in all four of Mexico’s 2014 FIFA World Cup matches. He also played in two matches for the Tricolor at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
