SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Celso Borges will miss Costa Rica’s next World Cup qualifier Tuesday at Panama after it was confirmed that the 27-year-old fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

The injury was sustained in the first half of the Ticos’ 1-0 win over visiting Haiti in the fourth-round opener for each on Friday.

Deportivo La Coruña, the midfielder’s La Liga club, announced Sunday that the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol agreed Borges should return to Spain immediately in order to undergo further evaluation.

Borges has appeared in 33 World Cup qualifiers for Costa Rica and played in all five of its matches in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
