MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Honduras rallied from an early deficit to post a 3-1 win over host Nicaragua on Wednesday at the Estadio Nacional.

It was the Catrachos’ second straight victory after a five-game winless streak, while Nicaragua lost for the second-consecutive time on the heels of a five-game unbeaten run.

Raul Leguias put the host ahead 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, applying a slight touch with his outstretched left foot from four-yards out to coax Carlos Chavarria’s superb left-sided pass – following a long run into the box – off the right post and into the net.

The visitor leveled in the 56th minute, when Bayron Mendez finished a brilliant individual run down the right by unleashing a right-footed shot from 18 yards that found the upper corner on the far side.

After Bryan Acosta was fouled in the box, Ever Alvarado converted an 83rd-minute penalty kick to give Honduras a 2-1 lead.

With three minutes remaining in normal time, Nicaragua’s Jason Casco turned in a Romell Quioto cross from the right for an own-goal, completing the scoreline.

NOTES:

  • Nicaragua’s Luis Fernando Copete was ejected in the 83rd minute
  • Honduras head coach Jorge Luis Pinto was sent off in the 62nd minute.
