FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas announced Tuesday that it has acquired Honduras international Maynor Figueroa from fellow Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids in exchange for financial considerations.
The 32-year-old defender is expected to bolster a backline that conceded an impressive 39 goals in 34 regular-season games in 2015, but allowed five in the two-legged Western Conference final against the Portland Timbers last November.
"Maynor Figueroa is an experienced player that will help solidify our defensive unit," FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said. "We are excited to have him in Dallas."
After he was released by England’s Hull City last year, Figueroa signed with Colorado on August 10, 2015, and scored once in 10 matches.
He played eight seasons in the English Premier League, initially joining Wigan Athletic on loan in 2008 from Honduras’ Olimpia. The deal was made permanent in 2009, with Figueroa making 200 appearances for the Latics, before moving to Hull City in 2013. He played 45 games for Hull over two seasons.
The 5-foot-11 Figueroa has earned more than 110 caps. He has represented Honduras in three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2005, 5 games; 2007, 4 games; 2015, 3 games) and two FIFA World Cups (2010, 3 games; 2014, 3 games). His international career also includes 36 appearances over the course of four World Cup Qualifying campaigns and an Olympic Games (2012, 4 games).
