MADRID – With a 5-0 win over visiting Grenada on Saturday, Real Madrid extended its unbeaten run to 39 games, equaling the mark Barcelona set last season for the longest in Spanish football history.
The day was also momentous for Costa Rica international goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who played in his 50th La Liga game for the Blancos, earning his 39th win.
“I feel incredibly happy,” Navas was quoted as saying on the Real Madrid website. “I keep on notching games with the club and that gives me the most satisfaction.”
The 30-year-old, who joined from Levenate in August 2014, made his official debut against Elche on September 23, 2014, a 5-1 win.
“I feel incredibly happy and thankful to God because it is something that I've dreamed of for years,” commented Navas, who has also played with Albacete and Saprissa. “I keep playing every game, working hard and keep going and that is what gives me the most satisfaction. I hope things continue this way. Today, we performed brilliantly. We have all worked hard and that is the key".
With Real Madrid, he has won the UEFA Champions League (2015/16), two FIFA Club World Cups (2014. 2016) and two UEFA Super Cups (2014, 2016).
After winning the CONCACAF Player of the Year award for 2014, Navas is also a nominee for the 2016 honor.
