TORONTO -- Toronto FC announced Wednesday the signing of Canada international forward Tosaint Ricketts.
The 28-year-old hasn’t competed in a club match since February 7, 2016, coming on as second-half substitute for Boluspor in a Turkish TFF First League match against Adana Demirspor.
“We are pleased to add another Canadian international with valuable experience for both club and country,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Tosaint has trained with the team and has fit in well within the group. We are pleased to get this deal finalized and have him available for selection this weekend.”
Ricketts began his professional career with MYPA in 2009, appearing in 51 matches and scoring 14 goals in all competitions with the Finnish club. He joined Romanian side Politehnica Timișoara in November 2010 and proceeded to net seven goals in 26 matches across all competitions.
In August 2012, Ricketts signed with Norway’s Valerenga, eventually moving on to Sandnes Ulf (Norway, 2013), Bucaspor (Turkey, 2013-14) and Hapoel Haifa (Israel, 2014-15), before linking up with Boluspor in August 2015.
With Canada, Ricketts has earned 50 caps and notched 12 goals. He made his international debut on February 9, 2011, in a friendly match against Greece. On June 1, 2011, Ricketts scored his first goal in a friendly against visiting Ecuador that ended in a 2-2 draw. He has represented Canada in three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2011, 2013, 2015), 19 World Cup qualifiers (3 goals) and in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup (3 games, 0 goals).
