LONDON – Arsenal announced Thursday that it has loaned Costa Rica international Joel Campbell to Real Betis.
It marks the sixth time – and second to the La Liga side -- that the 25-year-old attacker has been loaned out by the Gunners, since signing with the English power in 2011.
Campbell scored two goals in 28 appearances with Real Betis during the 2012/13 campaign. The former Saprissa product spent last season with Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon, playing in 18 games and netting three goals.
With Arsenal, Campbell has struck for four goals in 40 matches.
He has also spent time with Lorient, Olympiacos and Villarreal.
Campbell is still recovering from a knee injury suffered during July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup and will miss Costa Rica’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the United States (September 1, away) and Mexico (September 5, home).
