MIAMI, Florida – This Friday will be a pivotal day for teams in pursuit of a berth in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, with several group leaders in action.

Puerto Rico have been nothing short of sensational in qualifying thus far in Group A with a pair of wins, while outscoring opponents 13-0, but now a very stern test awaits at home against Suriname at the Estadio Centroamericano in Mayaguez.

The Boricuas have been boosted by the play of Karina Socarras, who has five goals in the tournament, yet Suriname have shown that they have the pieces to do damage as well. Ravalcheny van Ommeren’s hat trick in their last outing paved the way for a 5-0 win over Anguilla.

Opportunity knocks for a Saint Kitts and Nevis team that is looking to get back into the hunt in Group B, as they travel to the Estadio Pensativo in Antigua, Guatemala to take on group leaders Guatemala.

Saint Kitts and Nevis sit third in the group with one loss, but they arrive into the encounter on the heels of a 5-1 win versus Curacao. Experienced players like Ellie Stokes and Jahzara Claxton were among the players finding the scoresheet, and they’ll look to do similar against a Guatemala side that has two wins from two, while scoring 15 and conceding none.

Maria Monterroso and Andrea Alvarez have starred for the Chapines with three goals each and will be called upon to provide more fireworks against the islanders.

The Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo will be the site for a compelling match-up in Group C, as first place Dominican Republic host third place Bermuda.

The Dominican Republic have marched to two straight wins to open qualifying, outscoring opponents 13-0, but they will find a very defensively solid team in Bermuda, who are coming off a clean sheet of their own in the 6-0 victory over Cayman Islands.

The Dominican Republic’s Alyssa Oviedo has been a menace for opposing defenses with four goals, but Nia Christopher and her three goals for Bermuda must also be taken into account.

It remains a tight race in Group D, which will make for an interesting affair when El Salvador meet Barbados at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador.

The home side has two wins in two games and is second in the table, just one goal behind first place Panama. Meanwhile, Barbados are nestled in third place, but could make a strong move to the top with a win on Friday.

In their last outing, Barbados held off a tough Aruba side, 3-1, while El Salvador were 7-1 winners, also against Aruba. Yoselyn Lopez provides much of the punch for El Salvador with four goals, but she’ll have to be on-target in order to beat Barbados’ excellent GK Kamillah Burke.

High-flying Cuba are back in action in Group E and will defend their first place standing against third place Honduras at the Estadio Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba.

Cuba have poured in 17 goals in their first two games, both wins, with Yeranis Lee and Rachel Pelaez combining to account for 11 of those scores. Those two attackers will get tested against a Honduras side that kept a clean sheet in their last outing, a 4-0 win versus British Virgin Islands.

Guyana sit atop Group F thanks to two wins and zero goals conceded, but that defensive mark will be out to the ultimate test against third place Nicaragua at the National Track and Field Facility in Leonora, Guyana.

The Pinoleras are coming off a 19-goal effort against Turks and Caicos Islands in which Yessenia Flores scored six goals, but Guyana have goalscorers as well, including Marian El-Masri, who has three goals in W Qualifying.
