MIAMI, Florida – 2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualifying is now in the books after a full April window of exciting moments and great goals.
Here is a look back at the Top 5 moments from the April window of W Qualifying:
Flores, Borgella engage in epic scoring race
The race to finish as the top scorer in W Qualifying came down to the wire between Yessenia Flores of Nicaragua and Roselord Borgella of Haiti. Heading into the April window, Flores had seven goals to her name, while Borgella was two behind with five. But Borgella poured in four goals in Haiti’s 21-0 win versus British Virgin Islands, while Flores was shut out in the 0-0 draw at Guyana. Borgella would then tack on another two goals in Haiti’s 6-0 win versus Cuba on Tuesday, giving her a four-goal advantage, only to see Flores strike for four goals before the hour mark in Nicaragua’s finale with Dominica. Flores remained on the field until the final whistle, but a fifth goal on the night was not meant to be, resulting in both players finishing with an impressive 11 goals each.

British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands get first qualifying goals
While W Qualifying ended with both British Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands failing to get a point from their four matches, each side did enjoy a positive moment during the April window by scoring their first qualifying goal. A Saint Vincent and the Grenadines own goal forced by some deep pressure enabled BVI to score early in the second half of their 5-1 defeat to Vincy Heat, while Kadine Delphin’s effort to force a turnover from the Dominica defense led to her right-footed finish during an 8-1 loss. Those goals were great moments for two programs looking to build toward the future.
Perfect records for Mexico, Haiti, Panama and Costa Rica
Winning a group in W Qualifying is impressive enough, and doing so with an unbeaten record is even better. However, four teams took things to the next level by not only finishing with 4W-0D-0L marks, but also completing their campaigns with no goals allowed: Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Haiti. Mexico in Group A outscored opponents 34-0, Costa Rica had a 22-0 margin in Group B, Panama were just as strong in outscoring their opponents 24-0, while Haiti soared to a 44-0 advantage in Group E.
Hutchinson's dramatic goal for Trinidad and Tobago
One would be hard-pressed to find a more dramatic situation than what Trinidad and Tobago were facing in their finale versus Guyana. Down 2-1 at home and time ticking into the final minutes, the Soca Warriors needed a goal to secure their place in the W Championship, but they were having difficulty against a very tough Guyana defense. However, that changed in the 90’ when Lauryn Hutchinson was at the right place and the right time to poke a shot home from a yard out to deliver the goal that earned Trinidad and Tobago a spot in the W Championship.

All teams make great strides forward
From the start of W Qualifying until Tuesday’s night’s finales, it can be said that all 30 teams in action made great strides forward in the development of their respective Women’s National Team. Whether it was Saint Kitts and Nevis rebounding from an opening 7-0 loss to Costa Rica to close qualifying with three straight wins in Group B, or Grenada scoring their lone goal against 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup side Jamaica in Group C or Nicaragua scoring the most goals of any team in Group F with 30, there were positive moments all around that will provide a foundation for future qualifying campaigns.
