MIAMI, Florida – Mexico has been one of the standout teams in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup and they are through to the semifinal state after an exhilarating 3-2 victory against Paraguay.

None of this could have happened without the performance of Jacqueline Ovalle, who scored a pair of goals to lead El Tricolor to victory.

Because of her excellent display in Mexico’s triumph, Ovalle is the W Gold Cup Quarterfinals Game-Changer.

Ovalle gave Mexico a 1-0 lead in the 31’ when she received a pass on the left side of the area and cranked a left-footed shot that beat Paraguay GK Alicia Bobadilla.

Ovalle would then come through again in the second half and at a big moment. With Paraguay cutting the Mexico lead down to 2-1, the South Americans had all the momentum.

However, pressure from Mexico yielded a golden scoring opportunity in the 69’ for Stephany Mayor, whose shot was initially blocked by Bobadilla, but Ovalle was there to clean up the rebound and score 3-1.

The two goals for Ovalle in the quarterfinal victory give her five in the tournament, making her the joint-top scorer along with Adriana Leon of Canada.

Ovalle would finish the match against Paraguay with two goals from five shots, a steal and 28 passes completed in 97 minutes of work.
