TEGUCIGALPA. - Honduras and Nicaragua meet in League B of the Road to W Gold Cup at the Chelato Uclés National Stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on Monday.

The Central American matchup will be the lone match of the day in the second tier and one that could impact the race for first in Group B. Honduras is looking to build on its win at Martinique, while Nicaragua hopes to avenge a tough home defeat to El Salvador.

Lesbia Puerto delivered a brace for La H in what would end up being a three-point result. Puerto led all players with eight total shots and was on target in half of her attempts. Sherrie Arzu had four saves in the opening encounter to gain her first clean sheet of the tournament.

Nicaragua were shut out by El Salvador, but still managed to generate goalscoring chances, of which they’ll look to be more effective in their second outing. Diana Lopez accounted for three of the team’s six total shots, of which two were on target. Nuria Marquez provided the other shot on frame for the Blue and White in her contributions off the bench.

Honduras could move to first place with a victory. More importantly, the win will help to keep pace in what could end up being a tightly contested Group B.

A win would position Nicaragua to get into first place during the October fixtures. The group winners in League B advance to a playoff with League A runners-up for a spot in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup.
