MIAMI, Florida – League C of the Road to W Gold Cup was back in action on Monday with three matches.
Turks and Caicos Islands vs. Aruba
Group A got the day going with Aruba capturing a 5-0 victory over Turks and Caicos Islands at the TCIFA National Stadium in Providenciales.
Aruba could not have asked for a better start, as they took a 1-0 lead just shy of the first minute mark when Bonny Lammers received a pass between two defenders and fired into goal.
The lead was doubled to 2-0 in the 10’ with Aisse Gumbs finishing a right-footed shot. By the 21’, it was 3-0 to Aruba, as Jennifer Henao turned in a shot that had been tipped by Turks and Caicos Islands GK Eradannia Ortiz.
Aruba kept their foot on the gas in the second half and stretched the lead to 4-0 in the 75’ when Vanessa Susanna tucked away a right-footed shot. Gumbs then capped the 5-0 scoreline with her second of the day in the 86’ on a shot from distance.
Cayman Islands vs. Anguilla
The action then shifted to Group D where the Cayman Islands played to a 2-2 draw at home with Anguilla at the Truman Bodden Stadium in George Town.
Cayman Islands struck first in the 33’ through Shayana Windsor’s powerful left-footed shot for a 1-0 lead. Anguilla answered right before halftime, though, evening the score at 1-1 thanks to Maiesha Minette, who swept home an inch-perfect cross from Cycoiah Wattley.
Anguilla then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 70’ when Keiana Vanterpool slotted home a right-footed shot, but Cayman Islands had their own response, earning a share of the spoil’s courtesy of Molly Kehoe’s 2-2 equalizing goal in the 74’ on a right-footed shot from long-range.
Belize vs. Bonaire
Closing out the evening was another contest in Group A as Belize topped Bonaire 3-0 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.
Mikhaila Bowden opened the scoring in the 33’ by collecting a ball on the left wing, charging toward goal and firing into net for a 1-0 Belize lead.
The momentum stayed with Belize going into the second half and it was 2-0 in the 47’ when Khalydia Velasquez followed up her own blocked shot for a goal.
Velasquez then got her second of the night in the 64’ for a 3-0 Belize lead by volleying in just a few feet in front of net to complete the scoring for Belize.
