SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, Mexico – Tigres UANL Femenil earned a 2-nil victory against Portland Thorns FC in the Semifinals of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals on Wednesday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico.
The hosts took the lead in the 10’ through a corner kick opportunity as Aaliyah Farmer headed in a service from Jacqueline Ovalle.
Olivia Moultrie attempted to equalize from outside the box in the 12’ but Itzel González was there to collect the attempt.
Thembi Kgatlana extended the Tigres lead in the 27’ by pouncing on an error from Thorns FC goalkeeper Bella Bixby.
Kgatlana had a shot on goal in the 30’ but was denied by Bixby on that occasion. Jenni Hermoso had a look from the top of the box seconds later, but her shot was wide.
Kgatlana was menacing again in the 38’, using her speed to meet a ball over the top and pick her shot just wide of the left post.
Pietra Tordin attempted a header towards goal in the 65’ but was off target as the Thorns attempted to find their way onto the scoreboard.
Sam Coffey tried her luck from long range in the 82’ but the ball went just over the crossbar.
Ana Dias had a look inside the box in the 87’ on a Tigres counterattack but was forced off the mark by Bixby.
Tigres Femenil advances to the championship match against NJ/NY Gotham FC while Portland Thorns FC will face Club América Femenil in the Third Place Match. Both encounters will take place on Saturday at Estadio Universitario.
The winner of the Final will be the inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup winner and advance to the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and book a place in the 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
With tonight’s win, Tigres extended their unbeaten streak at home to eight matches across Liga MX Femenil and the Concacaf W Champions Cup (W6 D2).
● Tigres are the only team to score at least two goals in all their matches in this season’s Concacaf W Champions Cup. The only other team to score multiple goals in all four group stage matches were Portland.
● In addition to scoring the second goal of the match, Thembi Kgatlana led Tigres in shots (4), successful dribbles (3), and expected goals (1.08 xG).
● Jacqueline Ovalle’s assist on Tigres’ opening goal was her fourth in this season’s Concacaf W Champions Cup, most in the competition. Ovalle (1 goal, 4
assists) is one of five players with five or more goal contributions in the competition along with teammates Ana Dias (6) and Stephany Mayor (5).
● Tigres’ Itzel González made seven saves in tonight’s 2—0 win over Portland, tied for the third most in a match in the Concacaf W Champions Cup. It was the most saves made while keeping a clean sheet and the most saves made in a win in the competition.
