MIAMI, Florida – This Wednesday the group stage of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic will come to a close with teams in Group F and Group H wrapping up the action.
In Group F at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Guyana will take on Panama in what is a crucial meeting for both.
Guyana sit on three points and can assure themselves a knockout round place with a draw, however, Panama have one point and at present are fourth in the four-team table, but could advance with a win.
Guyana are looking to bounce back from their opening 5-0 loss to Mexico, while Emily Cedeno will be aiming to return to the scoresheet for Panama following Monday’s 1-1 draw with Honduras.
Group F will then close with Mexico facing Honduras. El Tricolor are through to the next round, while Honduras will know what they need to do in order to qualify for the knockout round stage upon the conclusion of the Guyana-Panama match. Regardless, no doubt the Catrachas will be out for the three points.
Group H will finish up at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal where the day will begin with Guatemala facing Cuba.
The Chapines are through to the next round with four points, while Cuba are still searching for their first point of the tournament. The Cubans have been tough in defense and will try to kickstart their attack against the Central Americans.
The nightcap sees Haiti facing Caribbean rivals Jamaica in what should be a scintillating affair. Haiti have already punched their knockout round ticket, but there is still work to do on Jamaica’s part.
The good news for the Reggae Girlz is that attacker Kameron Simmonds has found her scoring stride thanks to her brace in the 3-0 win versus Cuba on Monday.
