SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras -- After waiting to see where it would ultimately finish in Group B at the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship, Mexico ended as runner-up to the United States on goal difference (+11 to +7).

A two-goal win over Panama on Wednesday wasn’t enough as the Americans found their scoring touch, defeating Haiti, 6-0, to capture the group crown.

The Tricolor will face Group A winner Canada – the only team to post a perfect 3W-0D-0L record in the group stage -- in the semifinals. Despite by the difficult task of taking on an obviously strong opponent, Mexico will not let that deter from its own preparation and eventual performance.

After all, a place in the final and a ticket to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup are at stake.

“We’ve played against all kinds of teams and we’ve played USA and tied them,” said forward Jacqueline Crowther, who scored one goal in four matches at the 2014 FIFA U-17 World Cup. “We’re going to give everything and give ourselves a good opportunity to get in the finals to get our ticket to the World Cup.

“We’re going to play our own game regardless and give it to them.”

Against Panama, Crowther had a chance in the first half to score on a breakaway, only to see her effort saved.

In the 41st minute, though, the 18-year-old made no mistake on a second opportunity, converting with a well-taken, low shot. Coming up against a Canadian team that has yet to conceded a goal, Crowther knows the team can’t get frustrated on the offensive end and must maintain patience.

“Every chance we got (against Panama) was close,” Crowther noted. “So I think if you miss one, you get your head back in the game and if you miss another, you get your head back in the game, so that’s the mindset that I kept.”

In five previous CU20W meetings them, Canada has four wins to Mexico’s one. They last met in 2012, with the Canadians triumphing 1-0. The Mexicans, though, came out on top in their previous semifinal encounter, 1-0 after extra time, in 2010.
