MEXICO CITY – The Mexico women’s under-20 national team returned to training Thursday, three days after releasing its roster for the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship to be held in the Cayman Islands, January 9-19.
The 20-player selection is comprised of many veterans of past CONCACAF youth competitions, including goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago, defender Mariana Cadena, as well as forwards Taylor Alvarado, Fabiola Ibarra and Tanya Samarzich.
Mexico, which has qualified for five of the previous six FIFA U-19/20 Women’s World Cups, will open against the host nation on January 10, before completing Group B play against Honduras (January 12) and Trinidad & Tobago (January 14).
The squad completed a 12-day camp on December 22, following a 2-0 friendly loss to Cruz Azul’s under-15 boys team.
The top three finishers at the CONCACAF competition will qualify for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
