MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic continues on Saturday with the teams in Group F and Group H kicking off their campaigns.

The Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo will be host to the teams in Group F, including 2020 CWU20 runners-up Mexico, who take on Panama.

While 16 of Mexico’s 20 players play in the Liga MX Femenil, sisters Silvana and Tatiana Flores bring experience from England’s FA Super Women’s League with Tottenham and Chelsea, respectively. Other ones to watch are Jana Gutierrez (Tigres), Natalia Mauleon (Club America) and Aylin Avilez (Monterrey).

Panama have been busily preparing for the tournament, including with a pair of friendlies against Costa Rica, with the Canaleras earning a 1-0 win in the first affair thanks to a Gloria Saenz goal.

The day in Group F will start with Honduras squaring off against Guyana. The Catrachas will be keen to get off to a winning start after failing to advance from the group stage in the 2020 edition.

Meanwhile, Guyana were quarterfinalists in 2020 and bring back some players from that squad, including Audrey Narine, who scored four goals for the Lady Jaguars in that tournament.

Group H will take place at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal and it will be Jamaica and Guatemala starting off things first.

The Reggae Girlz can rely on the likes of MF Chantelle Parker, who scored two goals in the 2020 CWU20, while Guatemala will be boosted by the presence of DF Sandra Ovando, who scored in her own right two years ago in the CWU20. MF Maria Contreras, fresh off of scoring for the Senior Team in the 6-0 win versus Curacao in Concacaf W Qualifying, will also be key for the Chapines.

Closing out the day in Group H will be Haiti facing Cuba in what will surely be a fiery Caribbean battle. Cuba reached the Round of 16 in 2020, while Haiti made it all the way to the semifinals.

DF Maudeline Moryl scored for Haiti’s Senior Team in the 11-0 triumph over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Concacaf W Qualifying lastw eek, while 2020 CWU20 goalscorers FW Dayana Pierre, DF Valentina Ornis, MF Florsie Joseph, FW Mirlene Dorce, DF Rose-Ayla Marcellus and DF Estericove Joseph are all back for a second crack at the title.

Cuba will look to counter with FW Katheryn Rodriguez and FW Maria Karla, the former scoring a goal for Cuba at the 2020 CWU20.
