MIAMI, Florida – The Round of 16 of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship continues on Saturday with another four matches involving eight teams who are each keen to secure a quarterfinal spot.

The day begins with Group F winners Mexico squaring off with Curacao at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.

El Tricolor could not have asked for a better group stage, as they collected three wins out of three, while scoring 13 goals and conceding none.

Mexico have been led by Alyin Avilez, who is the joint-top scorer in the tournament with four goals, including a score in each match thus far. Natalia Mauleon has also provided a lift in attack, with three assists, which is tied for the tournament lead.

Mexico take on a Curacao side that advanced directly to the Round of 16 from last fall’s CWU20 Qualifying when Curacao allowed just two goals in two games.

A stifling defense, along with Taisha Hansen and Sadeyah Rosa, who scored two goals each in CWU20Q, will give Curacao belief heading into the affair.

Later in the day in Santo Domingo, Guatemala will match wits against a very competitive Bermuda side.

The Chapines captured Group H, beating out Haiti and Jamaica, thanks to a solid defense and timely scoring. Guatemala GK Fabiola Montenegro has been one of the top goalkeepers in the tournament with eight saves, while no player has received more fouls than Guatemala’s Celsa Cruz (13).

Bermuda reached this phase of the tournament via CWU20Q with a sparkling 2W-0D-0L record, scoring nine goals and conceding none. Many of the players who played for Bermuda in February’s Concacaf W Qualifiers make up Head Coach Naquita Robinson’s Under-20 side, which should make for a compelling evening of football.

At the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal, things will kick off with Jamaica meeting Panama. Both teams earned 1W-1D-1L results during the group stage, with the Canaleras finishing second in Group F and the Reggae Girlz third in Group H.

Panama GK Alejandra Garay has been a steady presence in goal with 12 saves, while the attack likes to spread the wealth, as five different players accounted for the team’s six goals.

Jamaica yielded just one goal in the group stage, as GK Liya Brooks amassed eight saves in the three matches. Kameron Simmonds has also been a force up top, with two goals and two shots off the post.

Rounding out the day will be Haiti taking on Guyana in San Cristobal. Haiti’s defense has also been a big plus, with two goals allowed in three games, while Rose-Alya Marcellus accounts for two of the team’s three goals.

After an opening 2-0 win versus Honduras in Group F, Guyana fell in their last two contests but will look to rebound against a Haiti side that placed second in Group H.
