BRADENTON, Florida – El Salvador is on its way to the next round of the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship following Guatemala’s 2-2 draw with Cayman Islands on Thursday.
The Cuscatlecos were not even in action on Matchday Five, but by virtue of Guatemala and Cayman Islands splitting points, El Salvador has finished atop Group F with one match to play.
The day started with a thrilling encounter between Curacao and Guyana, ending in the first ever CU20 win for Curacao, 4-3.
Kelsey Benjamin (7’) gave Guyana a dream start, but Curacao responded with three unanswered goals via Carolith Fermina (10’), Meghon Valpoort (27’) and a Cecil Jackman own goal (33’).
Thair Britton (45’) got the Golden Jaguars back into it, only for Jaron Vicario (56’) to restore the two-goal advantage.
Guyana launched one last comeback attempt with Britton’s second goal of the day (58’), but Curacao hung on for the final half-hour for the win.
In the second match of the day Guatemala and Cayman Islands went back and forth, beginning with Rudy Barrientos (14’) for Guatemala and Kion Parchmont (30’) for Cayman Islands.
The Chapines fought right back through Oscar Santis (33’), but the Cayman Islands got equalizer from Mason Duval (54’) to earn the point.
