El Tri pushed from the start in a bid to get on the scoreboard in front of a raucous home crowd. Stellar goalkeeping, however, from Curacao's Zeus de la Paz kept the locals at bay for much of the early going.
The pressure eventually paid off in the 22nd minute, when the active Jesus Corona received a feed at the top of the box from Marco Bueno. The Monterrey midfielder proceeded to bang home a long-range shot, giving Mexico a lead it would never relinquish.
Mexico continued to advance with confidence, and the attack bore fruit once again in the 34th minute. Uvaldo Luna was sprung down the right flank, where the Tigres man collected calmly and sliced a cross through the Curacao area. Corona easily dispatched the ball into the net to double the lead.
Just two minutes later, Bueno got into the goal scoring action. The Pachuca youth latched onto a headed down cross and finished easily to give Mexico a comfortable lead with much of the match still left to play.
The second half was just as active as the first in terms of offensive-minded football, though goals were harder to come by. Mexico continued to string together passes and play attractively.
Visiting Curacao began to play more fluidly as well, coming particularly close after a corner kick midway through the half, which required the intervention of Mexican goalkeeper Richard Sanchez.
After six minutes of stoppage time in which the visitors again threatened to narrow the Mexican advantage, the clock ran down and the home side claimed its first three points.
El Tri will now rest until Saturday, when it faces El Salvador at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc, two days after Curacao and El Salvador square off.
