GEORGE’S, Grenada – Haiti won for the first time after seven attempts in the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship, submitting a record-equaling performance in a 13-0 victory over host Grenada in the Group A opener for each on Thursday at the Grenada Athletics Stadium.
The result lifted the Haitians into first place on goal difference over Canada, which defeated Guatemala 3-0 earlier in the evening.
TSG player of the match Nerilia Mondesir (9’, 38’, 41’, 42’) struck for four goals, all in the first half, while Mikerline Saint Felix (5’, 15’), Shelsie Melissa Dacius (34’, 55’) and Lovelle Pierre (70’, 84’) each struck for a brace. Coventina Dumonay (14’), Martine Olivier (28’) and Roseline Eloissaint (53’) tallied once apiece.
Haiti matched the mark for the most goals scored in a single CU17W match that was set by the United States in a 13-0 win over the Cayman Islands on March 12, 2010.
Grenada made its first-ever appearance in the finals of a CONCACAF women’s competition.
