BRASILIA, Brazil – There is just something about a FIFA Under-17 World Cup that brings out the best in Mexico, as El Tricolor will try to claim their third Under-17 World Cup title beginning this week at the 2019 edition in Brazil.

For the eighth time in their history, Mexico won the Concacaf Under-17 Championship and punched their ticket to a 14th FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

El Tricolor won both the 2005 and 2011 editions of the Under-17 World Cup, in addition to a runner-up finish in 2013 and a fourth-place finish in 2015.

With the talent that Mexico boasts, there is plenty of reason to believe that another deep run is on the docket.

The two-time champions are led by FW Santiago Munoz, who had five goals at the CU17, plus MF Israel Luna, who took home the CU17 Golden Ball after scoring five goals, including the winning goal in extra time in the Final, a 2-1 win over the United States.

Mexico is just as solid in the back as they are anchored by CU17 Golden Glove Award winner Eduardo Garcia, who also joined Luna, DF Jesus Gomez and MF Eugenio Pizzuto in the tournament’s Best XI.

Mexico will need all those players to be at their best, as they take on Solomon Islands, Italy and Paraguay in Group F, with all matches scheduled to be played at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.

El Tricolor kick off their group stage campaign on Monday against Paraguay, followed by a clash with Italy next Thursday, October 31 before concluding the group on Sunday, November 3 against Solomon Islands.
