BRASILIA, Brazil – Mexico is off to a positive start in the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup after earning a 0-0 draw against Paraguay in Group F action at the at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.
It was a tight, intense first half between the two teams with scoring chances few and far between, with Mexico GK Eduardo Garcia having to be on his toes to make a pair of saves at the half-hour mark.
Five minutes later Mexico got their first chance through Santiago Munoz, whose effort forced Paraguay GK Angel Gonzalez into a save.
Garcia was called to make another save just after the hour mark and things grew even more difficult when Eugenio Pizzuto was sent off with a red card in the 69th minute.
But the Mexico defense did not buckle and hung tough thanks to the steady hand of Garcia in goal to collect the point.
Mexico return to action on Thursday against Italy.
