MIAMI -- CONCACAF and the Local Organizing Committee of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship Honduras 2015 announced Monday a change of venue for the competition’s final day of play, which will now take place at the Estadio Francisco Morazan in San Pedro Sula on March 15.

Two stadiums in the Honduran city have been employed throughout the tournament that kicked off on February 27.  Sunday’s final round was originally scheduled to be contested at the Estadio Olimpico.  The decision to shift activities that day to the Estadio Francisco Morazan comes in the interest of facilitating access for the legions of fans, who have flocked to that downtown stadium to this point.

This year, a new format favoring development and competition was introduced for the Under-17 Championship.  The 12 qualified teams were drawn into two groups of six under a round-robin schedule.  Group A culminates on Wednesday, while Group B concludes a day later.

The top team from each group will earn a direct berth to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Chile 2015 and a place in the championship match.

The second- and third-place teams from each group will be re-seeded into a four-team table based on points obtained during group play.  The top team from that table will play the fourth-ranked team and the second-ranked team will face off against the third-ranked nation.  The winners of those games will secure the Confederation’s last two U-17 World Cup spots.
