PANAMA CITY, Panama – Jorge Dely Valdes was named head coach of the Panama under-15 national team, the Federación Panameña de Fútbol announced Saturday.

The Panamanians are slated to participate in the second-ever CONCACAF Boys Under-15 Championship, which is scheduled to be played August 13-19, 2017, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Dely Valdes, who had two stints as Tauro FC manager, qualified Panama to a pair of FIFA U-17 World Cups (2011, 2013).  He also assisted his brother Julio Cesar in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup and with the senior squad.

The former national team star enjoyed a long playing career with clubs in numerous countries, including Nacional (Uruguay), Union Española (Chile), Cerezo Osaka (Japan) and Colorado Rapids (USA).

Dely Valdes scored two goals in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, one against both South Africa and Colombia.
