GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – The second day of play at the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championship was highlighted by opening matches in Group C and Group D at the T.E McField Sports Centre and the Cayman Brac Sports Field.

GROUP C

Costa Rica 5, Anguilla 0

At the T.E. McField Sports Centre, an energetic Costa Rico defeated Anguilla 5-0 in the opening match for each at the CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championship.

Merelyn Alvarado Morera (8’, 20’, 32’) struck for a hat-trick and Carmen Marin Rapaport (9‘, 45’) netted a brace for the Ticas, who jumped out to a 4-0 half-time lead.

“I am happy and the girls demonstrated working hard as a team,” said Costa Rica head coach Jose Amed Abando.  “They came here with a strong mentality and a lot of confidence and they did well.”

Jamaica 5, Belize 0

Jamaica got goals from five different players in a 5-0 win over Belize at the T.E McField Sports Centre.

Chavelle Henry (15’) struck for the game’s first goal and Monique Perrier (29’) doubled Jamaica’s advantage six minutes before the interval.

Shanhaine Nelson (40’), Sherice Clarke (45’) and Tarania Clarke (47’) each added single tallies before the first 12 minutes of the second half had lapsed.

Group D

Haiti 3, Cuba 1

At the Cayman Brac Sports Field, Haiti overcame an early own-goal to top Cuba, 3-1.  The Haitians went behind after a Nandie Deshommes (28’) miscue, but rebounded five minutes later through Nerilia Modesir (33’).

Lovelie Pierre (42’) and Nelourdes Nicolas (43’) struck early in the second half to seal victory for Haiti.

Canada 5, Puerto Rico 0

In a game at the Cayman Brac Sports Field delayed nearly an hour due to inclement weather, Lauren Raimondo (21’, 26’) scored a double and launched Canada to a 5-0 victory over Puerto Rico.

After Nahida Baalbaki (13’) gave the Canadians an early lead, Raimondo struck for a pair in quick-fire fashion to make it 3-0.

Sarah Stratigakis (35’) and Mya Jones (57’) were also on target in the win.
