KINGSTON, Jamaica - With the US football season off and running, two of Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz say they are settling in with their clubs.
One of them, striker Dane Kelly, who recently made the move to DC United from Reno 1868, is still trying to find his footing at his new home. Still, he remains upbeat that the tide will turn in his favour.
To get him up to top shape, Kelly has been playing with DC affiliate Richmond Kickers, a United Soccer League (USL) campaigner.
“So far it has been good as I have been with them (DC United) for three weeks now and I have been training good and I now need to get my fitness up and hopefully I will get a shot in the ‘A’ team soon,” said the former Charleston Battery striker, who slammed in a creditable 31 goals in 56 appearances between 2013-2015.
DC United has struggled so far this season, having drawn against Orlando City (1-1) and Houston Dynamo (2-2). It has continued the winless run with losses against Sporting Kansas City (0-1), Atlanta United and (1-3) Columbus Crew (1-3).
Defender Shaun Francis, who has had a fruitful career at San Jose Earthquakes playing 69 games, says he has stepped back from the proverbial bright lights of US Major League Soccer to the more conservative Louisville FC, a USL club.
He claims his decision to move to Louisville was done for the sake of his family.
“As you know, I have taken a different route because of my family as I wanted to make sure that I am close to my family instead of having to be traveling and living far from home.
“I am at Louisville City, the defending champions of the USL (United Soccer League), and so far I am happy that I can just go to practice and then go home,” the 31-year-old told concacaf.com.
In two matches, Louisville has registered victories over new USL franchise Nashville SC (2-0) and Tampa Bay Rowdies (1-0).
