SUKHOTHAI, Thailand – El Salvador international Nelson Bonilla has joined Thailand first-division side Sukhothai FC, it was announced Friday.
The 27-year-old forward played with Oliveirense of the Portuguese second division since the end of August, scoring two goals in six games.
Bonilla, who has earned 38 caps, helped El Salvador to a third place finish in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana and a berth in this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he had a goal and two assists. He was the Cuscatlecos’ top scorer in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with five goals.
After starting his professional career with Salvadoran power Alianza in 2011, Bonilla went on to play in Romania (Viitorul Constanta: 2014-15); Azerbaijan (Azira: 2015-16); Portugal (Nacional: 2016-17) and Turkey (Gaziantep: 2017).
