MIAMI, Florida– Concacaf W, in partnership with Coaches Across Continents, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a pilot program conducted last Tuesday, December 10 in Barbados in which nearly 150 school girls participated in a day-long program aimed to increase interest and encourage more young girls to play football.
Led by Concacaf Head of Women’s Football Karina LeBlanc, the girls in attendance participated in various games and drills in which they learned how they can become better versions of themselves while playing football.
The vision of Concacaf W is to improve lives through football, while completing the mission of bettering lives of women in the Concacaf region by changing perceptions, growing participation and building sustainable foundations.
Building upon the foundation laid by Concacaf’s Next Play initiative, the girls were coached and monitored by LeBlanc and several other special guests, including Sonia Fulford, FIFA & Concacaf Council & President of the Turks & Caicos Islands Football Association, Al Walcott, Sr. Vice President of the Barbados Football Association and Ytannia Wiggins, Director & Chair of the Women of Sports Commission at the Barbados Olympic Association.
The program was delivered by Nora Dooley, who serves as the Community & Government Partnership Manager for Coaches Across Continents, plus assistance from some former players of the Barbados Women’s National Team.
At the end of the day, it was a clear that the event left a lasting impact on the girls in attendance.
“This was truly awesome,” said one of the Physical Education teachers from one of the schools participating in the event. “I am looking forward to more like this, my girls cannot stop talking about it!”
