MIAMI, Florida – 2022 will be a year that will forever live in Canadian Men’s National Team lore and right at the center of it was 2022 Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year nominee Alphonso Davies.
The 22-year-old entered the Canada Soccer record books when he scored the first ever Canada goal at a Senior Men’s World Cup when he struck for a first half header in Canada’s 4-1 group stage defeat to Croatia at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Overall, he played in seven matches with Canada in 2022, including all three at Qatar 2022. He was also a force in 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League play, bagging a brace in a 4-0 win over Curacao in front of the fans in his hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.
The left back delivered another strong year at club level, too, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
During the calendar year, he appeared in 18 league matches, plus two domestic cup games in helping Bayern win the 2021-22 Bundesliga and the 2022 German Super Cup.
In European competition, he played in seven UEFA Champions League matches, the latter five coming in the group stage of the 2022-23 edition in which all five Bayern wins came via clean sheet, thanks in part to Davies’ defensive efforts.
