LOOKOUT, Montserrat – El Salvador defeated Montserrat by a 2-0 score in a Group B clash in League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Saturday at Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout, Montserrat.

The first half was a back and forth tug of war between the two sides. While El Salvador finished with more favorable statistics, most of the half was an even affair.

Narciso Orellana opened the attack with a right-footed shot from long range in the 43rd minute. Orellana was denied by the woodwork, but the rebound would fall to Roberto Dominguez for the header and the match’s opening goal.

Rodolfo Zelaya extended the lead for El Salvador in the 78th minute after capitalizing off a filtered pass into the box from Oscar Ceren. The goal is Zelaya’s first with the national team since July 13, 2017, against Curacao in the Gold Cup group stage.

The win places El Salvador at the top of the group, edging the Dominican Republic on goal difference. Montserrat drops to third place with the defeat.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday. Montserrat will travel to take on the Dominican Republic while El Salvador will travel to Saint Lucia.
