PARAMARIBO, Suriname – Suriname welcomes Nicaragua on Sunday for matchday two action in the Concacaf Nations League Group D of League B at the André Kamperveen Stadion in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Suriname came away with a valuable 2-1 away win at Dominica in their CNL opener on Thursday afternoon.

It was 19-year-old forward Gleofilo Vlijter who was the revelation of the match with a brace to help his nation to a winning start. 

Vlijter’s first goal came early in the match, a seventh minute strike, while his second came in the dying moments of the match, the deciding 91st minute goal.

Nicaragua opened their group action with a 1-1 draw against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on what was a rainy Thursday night in Managua.

The Nicaraguans also experienced joy from a late game goal as an 87th minute own goal salvaged the home result.

Juan Barrera, Nicaragua’s top scorer in qualifying, generated a few dangerous opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. If Barrera rekindles himself with a goal in Paramaribo, Nicaragua will feel good about leaving with the top spot of the group.

With the home supporters behind them, the Suriname national team will look to maintain the group lead for themselves to conclude its September fixtures in Nations League.
